CIRCULAR BIOCARBON featured in new publication on the bioeconomy of the future
14 March 2023
The CIRCULAR BIOCARBON project is one of 12 innovative projects showcased in a new publication A competitive bioeconomy for a sustainable future produced by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU).
The publication presents how the 14 first-of-their-kind commercial-scale biorefineries use municipal waste to produce sustainable bio-based ingredients, materials, and products and help Europe move to a low-carbon economy.
These pioneering biorefineries aim to increase the sustainability and circularity of production and consumption systems and replace the traditional ones thereby cutting long supply chains and reliance on imported fossil-based ingredients.
Funded through the €2 billion partnership between the European Union and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), these pioneering projects are paving the way for Europe to become the world’s first climate-neutral continent.
The partnership’s €250 million investment in 14 first-of-their-kind commercial-scale biorefineries across Europe has already attracted €1.3 billion in private investment and created nearly 20,000 jobs.
